Day of the Dead Family Festival is part of the programme at the Horniman Museum and Gardens in Forest Hill, south London. Día de Muertos as Mexico City keeps it: papel picado, marigold pathways, giant calaveras and ofrendas filling the Gardens for a day.
What to expect:
- Saturday 31 October 2026, 11am to 4pm, in the Gardens by the Bandstand
- Opens with Journey to Mictlán, a ceremonial procession led by Aztec dancers and musicians
- Live mariachi, folkloric and contemporary dance, walking musicians, stilt performers and Sonidero DJs
- For families: mask-making, face painting, storytelling, children's performances, games and a discovery trail
- Add a name to the community ofrenda
- A MexiBrit market of Mexican and Latin American makers, pan dulce, coffee and street food
- "Adult £8, Child £6. Under 2s free. Advance booking required" - everyone, including under 2s, needs a ticket
- Outdoors and standing, so dress for the weather; buggies allowed but there is no buggy park
