Family Event: Bat Detecting at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve

Bat Detecting is part of the family programme at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve, Kent Wildlife Trust's reserve and visitor centre. Bats are often associated with Halloween, so see if you can find any flying around the reserve during 'spooky season'. As the sun sets, come and have a go at spotting wildlife that only becomes active after dark.

What to expect:

• Two dates: Saturday 24 October, 5pm-7pm, and Thursday 29 October 2026, 6pm-8pm
• Starts with a hot drink in the Visitor Centre and a talk on the bats you might find, the noises they make and how bat detectors work
• Then out into the dark with detectors — a walk of 1 to 1.5 hours
• "£10 per person" — everyone attending needs their own ticket, adults included
• Bring a torch and sturdy footwear: the reserve is unlit, with uneven ground, mud, puddles and exposed roots
• No toilets once the walk starts — they are at the Visitor Centre at the beginning and end
• Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times
