About this event
Halloween at the Ulster Folk Museum is part of the museum's own programme at Cultra, near Holywood.
Across three days the Folk Museum comes alive with mask-making, mumming, a murder mystery, crafts, uncanny characters, seasonal food and spooky storytelling - Halloween as it was once celebrated in Ireland, rooted in Samhain.
What to expect:
- Thursday 29, Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, 10:00 to 16:00 each day
- Meet suspicious characters, solve a murder mystery, and look out for the Armagh Rhymers in traditional masks
- Carve your own clay Cailleach and Púca figures and make masks from natural materials
- "Get hands-on at the kids' crafts station and watch demonstrations of turnip-carving"
- Taste barmbrack and apple pie; hear spooky stories told in English and Irish
- Samhain tales from the archive in the Picture House, and a cabbage reading for fortune telling
- "Free for members"; choose your date when booking
- Largely outdoors across the open-air museum town - wrap up warm
