Martyrs, regicides and communists: South Bucks in the 1600s South Bucks today seems prosperous and conventional. Five centuries ago, it was a hotbed of religious and political radicalism. It was a small county that played a disproportionately large role in “the world turned upside down” that was the English Civil War. This talk will discuss the Bucks people and events of this period, and explain the prequel and sequel. Do come along and hear what made our county extraordinary in the early modern era. Warning: There will be references to 16/17th centuries attitudes and punishments. Speaker: Dr Beth Rogers, also known as historical fantasy novelist B B Elsin From 11am for an hour on Friday 20 November.
