Holiday workshops: Extract your own DNA (Year 5 and 6) is part of the Holiday workshops programme at the Royal Institution in London.
After harvesting their own cheek cells, students extract their DNA using lysis buffer, protease and ethanol - and go home with a piece of their own DNA in a necklace.
What to expect:

- Takes place in the Urenco Young Scientist Centre's teaching laboratory, so participants work in a real lab environment
- For safety, all participants must wear closed-toe shoes and anyone with long hair must tie it back
