About this event
Lynton and Barnstaple Railway, Exmoor in the Dark is part of the Exmoor Dark Skies Festival, which runs 16 October to 1 November 2026.
Experience travelling through the darkness of Exmoor as the Victorians did. In this special one-off service we'll be operating an extra train after sunset so you can experience steam on the moor under dark skies.
What to expect:
- Sunday 1 November 2026, 4.30pm to 6pm from Woody Bay Station, Martinhoe Cross
- A narrow-gauge steam train running after sunset - an extra service laid on for the festival
- "exactly as passengers did at the turn of the century"
- "Normal day fares will apply so turn up early, travel in the daylight and then contrast it with an atmospheric trip in the dark"
- No separate booking: the ordinary day ticket covers it
- Warm clothes - a steam carriage on the moor in November is cold
- The operator's own price line: Adults £11.50, Children free
