About this event

Tudor Living History Week is a special half-term event at Athelhampton House & Gardens near Dorchester.

Step back in time to 1580 and meet the Martyn family of Athelhampton, as living history specialists take on the characters of the 16th-century household. All levels of society from gentlefolk to servants will be around the house and gardens to talk with and learn from.

What to expect:

  • Monday 26th to Friday 30th October 2026, doors open 10:00, last entry 14:30, closes 16:00
  • Try Tudor food, dancing and clothing, write with a quill or kick a Tudor football
  • Dressing demonstration, archery demonstration, help serve the Martyn family dinner in the Great Hall
  • Craft demonstrations, with a chance to have a go
  • Outdoor dance, archery and football are weather dependent
  • Be prepared to spend the whole day in the house and gardens
  • Dogs must be kept on a lead; well behaved dogs are welcome in the cafe
