Meet the UK's most northerly reindeer and learn herding skills from experienced handlers in this unique Highland visitor attraction.

Lichen Caithness Reindeer Centre offers visitors a distinctive experience in the Scottish Highlands, featuring the UK's northernmost reindeer herd. Located just off the NC500 Route near Harpsdale in Caithness, this family-run business welcomes guests to meet and interact with three 'celebrity' reindeer: Sven, Levvi, and Mr Antlers. The centre's flagship experience is the acclaimed 'Reindeer Herder' session, where visitors learn about these incredible animals, their natural habitats, and gain hands-on herding experience. Weekday evening sessions run Monday to Friday at 6pm, with selected weekend sessions available on Saturdays and Sundays at 10am. Seasonal special events are offered throughout the year, providing varied experiences for different times and occasions. Founded in 2023 by Chris and Elizabeth, a couple who spent over twenty years dreaming of bringing reindeer to the Highlands, the centre is a genuine family operation. The team is knowledgeable and passionate about animal care, and visitors consistently praise the warm hospitality and quality experiences. Catering is available on-site, including homemade treats prepared by the family's baker. All visits require pre-booking due to licensing requirements, ensuring quality experiences and proper animal welfare. Suitable for families and animal lovers of all ages seeking an unforgettable wildlife encounter in a rural Highland setting.
