Explore interactive marine science exhibits, live sea life cameras, and Arctic cinema showcasing ocean research and discovery near Oban.

The Ocean Explorer Centre is an interactive indoor visitor attraction developed by marine scientists from the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) to inspire fascination with the ocean and its ecosystems. Located in a scenic setting next to the beach on the Dunstaffnage peninsula, near the historic 13th-century Dunstaffnage Castle, the centre combines indoor exhibits with outdoor exploration opportunities. Visitors can discover the wonders of marine science through hands-on experiences including live interactive cameras to spot and identify sea life under the pontoon, high-spec microscopes to explore microscopic ocean life, a 3-D globe revealing Earth's largest mountain chain, and exhibits on Arctic science, ocean currents, marine robots, and sustainable biofuels. The centre features a dedicated cinema screening short films on marine science topics. The venue welcomes families, school groups, and visitors of all ages (0+) with free entry and donations welcome. Educational workshops are available with support from SAMS scientists and education specialists for deeper learning. The on-site Beach Cafe (open 9am-4pm weekdays, 10am-4pm weekends) serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon teas, and homebaking. The centre is dog-friendly and pushchair-friendly, making it accessible for families with young children.
