Castle Kitchen: Soul Cakes is part of October Half-Term at York Castle Museum, which runs 24 October - 1 November 2026.
"Call into the Castle Kitchen during your visit, located off the Secrets of Dress gallery, to watch live seasonal cooking demonstrations throughout the day." This half-term the kitchen is making Soul Cakes, "a small cake with sweet spices traditionally made for Halloween."
What to expect:
- Saturday 24, Monday 26, Wednesday 28 and Saturday 31 October 2026, 10.30am - 4pm
- Live baking demonstrations throughout the day
- Try a sample, and scan the QR code on display for the recipe to bake at home
- Soul cakes were offerings to commemorate the dead in Christian traditions
