An amazing museum set in 2 halves, so much information about york and its history. The old street showing the shops, houses, toys froms bygone times, the clothing etc traveling through time to the present day. Well worth a visit and not expensive. We loved it

I was pleasantly suprised with the museum. The staff were very helpful to start with and the experience was very engaging. The prison section was a place where I wouldn't want to stay and these were left untouched apart from information videos of period dressed people in most cells. It wasvery well done. Dick turpins cell was a must to see and to listen to the image projected on the wall. The Victorian Street was much better than I imagined. It was dimly lit and felt a bit spooky to me. I could imagine Jack the ripper being there. I would say it was excellent and so well done. So worth the entrance fee. The photos don't do it justice. To be honest,I enjoyed it more than the Jorvik centre and that was really good. There was a World War section too which was great. I'm so glad that I went. I highly recommend a visit.

Absolutely fantastic place. Loved it. So rich in real historical gems. Much of the memorabilia has been reclaimed by a collector when old shops and premises closed down so the whole reconstruction has a very genuine, immersive feel. We spent many happy hours exploring and loved it.

Good fun - highly recommended. It is a bit of a 'journey through time' and is a totally immersive series of exhibits and experiences. Kirkgate (the Victorian street) was terrific. Itis a full-scale representation which you literally walk through - with shops, activities etc from the dark ages. The Prison section was a little creepy - but really a bit of fun to explore. We spent about 2–3 hours. Well done.

Incredible journey through time! If you’re visiting York with friends, York Castle Museum is an absolute blast! It’s not your typical "look but don't touch" museum—it’s totally immersive and actually fun. The highlight for our group was definitely Kirkgate, the Victorian street. It’s a full-scale recreation, and walking through it feels like you've stepped straight into a movie set (or Diagon Alley!). The attention to detail in the shops and the atmospheric lighting make for some epic group photos. Then there’s the Prison section, which is located in the original 18th-century cells. It’s creepy, atmospheric, and honestly a bit of a thrill to explore together. Seeing the holographic prisoners tell their stories on the cell walls is super cool—it adds a "ghost story" vibe that’s much better when you’re there with your squad to share the shivers! Pro Tip: Give yourself at least 2–3 hours. There’s so much to see, and you’ll want time to joke around and take pictures on the cobblestones. Highly recommended for anyone who wants history with a side of adventure!
