Cellar Scares

Cellar Scares is part of the Halloween programme at Temple Newsam, which runs from 24 October to 1 November 2026. An actor-led walk beneath the house, where costumed characters spin chilling tales before leading the group down into the cellars.

What to expect:

• On 24, 25 and 27-31 October and 1 November 2026, with timed tours from 11am; the house is closed on Monday 26 October
• "Tour lasts approx. 20 minutes", down into cellars "lit only by torches and unsettling glimmers of light"
• "Expect screams, surprises, and moments that will stay with you long after you've escaped back into the daylight"
• "This event is not suitable for children under 12, and all under-16s must be accompanied by a paying adult"
• "The tour includes the use of strobe lighting, loud noises and jump scares"
• "Access to and from the cellar is via stairs only" - dark, with uneven floors
• "Purchase your general admission tickets and there will be the option to add Cellar Scares on for just £5 extra per person"
