Gallery Takeover: Map Makers

Gallery Takeover: Map Makers is part of the programme at The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, County Durham.

A half-term hour that starts in the galleries and finishes at a worktable: look hard at the landscape paintings in the museum's big Impressionist show, then go and make a map of your own.

What to expect:

• Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 October 2026, 2.30pm to 3.30pm
• "Take a closer look at the art around you, then make something inspired by what you find."
• Inspired by the exhibition Impressions of Light, you "collect ideas and inspiration to use in creating your own map"
• "Guided by a member of the Learning Team, you’ll consider the nature and terrain found in our landscape paintings and put these ideas to use in the Create Space as we become map makers."
• "Starting in Reception, recommended for ages 5+, children under 14 must be accompanied."
• Reserve a place in advance; the session is "included in admission"
