About this event

Lantern Making, Campfire and Howl at the Moon Day is part of the ranger programme at Wirral Country Park, Thurstaston. A magical evening in the park: making lanterns, a campfire, and a moonlit walk for tiny adventurers and their larger adventure partners.

What to expect:

  • Monday 26 October 2026, 3.30pm to 5.30pm; meet at The Sidings, at the end of the main Wirral Country Park car park
  • Children make their own lanterns alongside the rangers, using natural resources and tissue paper, indoors
  • As the light fades, a short guided walk lit by the hand-made lanterns, stopping to howl at the full moon
  • Afterwards, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows round the campfire
  • The rangers recommend children over the age of 5, as the lanterns are quite fiddly
  • Fancy dress is encouraged; dress for autumn weather
  • Book a ticket per child — adults do not require tickets, and a responsible adult must accompany children at all times
  • Goes ahead in the rain — the rangers have a back up plan
