About this event
"Santa Claus is coming to town!" The East Lancashire Railway has run its Santa Specials for almost forty years: a decorated station, a steam train through the Irwell Valley, a brass band and a visit from Santa himself.
What to expect:
- Running 28-29 November and 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 December 2026
- A winter wonderland walkthrough at Bury Bolton Street Station - note there are some flashing lights
- An approximately 80-minute steam train ride from Bury to Rawtenstall and back
- Christmas characters including the elves, Mrs Claus and the Ice Princess
- A visit from Santa with time to talk and take photos, a gift for every child chosen by age band, and a children's activity book
- Carols from a traditional brass band on board, plus a mince pie and a festive tipple
- A British Sign Language interpreter can be booked on 28-29 November and 5 and 22 December
- A diesel shuttle runs from Heywood's car park; parking in Bury town centre is limited
