Stonehaven Fireballs Ceremony

Stonehaven's unique way to welcome the New Year: around 40 volunteers parade up and down the High Street swinging fiercely flaming fireballs around their heads as midnight strikes, followed immediately by a fireworks display.

What to expect:

• Crowds gather on the High Street from 10pm on 31 December; the fireball ceremony itself starts at midnight and lasts about 20 minutes, then fireworks
• Free to watch, no tickets needed - donations are welcomed on the night to help cover costs
• The High Street closes to new arrivals once it reaches capacity, sometimes before 11pm, so arrive early
• Run by the volunteer-led Stonehaven Fireballs Association
