About this event

Stories from the Steppe is part of the October half-term programme at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, alongside the Genghis Khan exhibition.

Mongolian storytelling is a rich oral tradition deeply rooted in nomadic life. Join us this October half term to learn more about how these myths and legends shaped the cultural identity of the steppe.

What to expect:

  • Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November 2026, daily
  • Storytelling: tales rooted in Mongolian folklore, myth and legend
  • Drop-in crafts 10am to 4pm: make Mongolian-inspired shields and banners
  • Try knucklebone shooting, a traditional Mongolian game
  • Watch a cavalryman armed with a Mongolian horseman's kit, plus live demonstrations
  • Art Cart colouring on Floor 4 and a free gallery trail with Batu the Fast
  • This is a free event. Please book a ticket for everyone in your party.
  • Daily timetable available on arrival
