About this event
The Pumpkin Express - Discovery Days is part of the programme at Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire: the quieter version of its half-term Halloween event, with the same trail and activities on days when no steam trains run. The centre's own line is "Discover the golden age of the Great Western railway with a spooky twist".
What to expect:
- Two dates only: Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October 2026
- Open 10.30am to 4pm; last admission is at 2.30pm
- "Steam trains do not run on our Discovery days" - this is a walk-round visit
- Solve the mystery pumpkin trail and collect a trick-or-treat gift for finishing it
- Make your own Halloween slime, and watch for the Phantom diesel locomotive
- Visiting engine Great Eastern Railway 'Coffee Pot' No. 229, built 1876
- Entry covers the 1932 Engine Shed, carriage and wagon display and the Signalling Centre
- Outdoor play area, cafe and shop on site
