Leicester is known for its wide variety of parks which are generally well looked after. Abbey Park is a traditional formal park with nice formal flower beds, boating lake, cafe, open spaces, play areas, tree areas. It’s very nice and well looked after. Originally was the site of the old Abbey - the remains of which can be walked around. A good size. Various events put on throughout the year - summer fair and firework displays in November for example. It connects with both the canal and the river Soar enabling you to walk further if you want a much longer walk. In the mornings many dog walkers and runners, afternoons, particularly Sundays, many family groups out for a stroll or picnic. It’s a great park for local residents.

Great park with plenty to do and a great water area for kids. Loads of walking areas and some great play area for kids.

Abbey Park is a beautiful green space, especially considering how close it is to Leicester city centre. Whether you want to go for a walk, cycle, run, play sports, have a picnic, or simply relax on the grass, there’s plenty of space for everyone. The park also hosts various events and festivals throughout the year, which creates a lovely atmosphere. Walking around the lake while watching the ducks and swans is especially peaceful. It’s one of the best parks in Leicester for both relaxing and staying active, and its convenient location makes it even better. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area.

Absolutely love Abbey Park! It’s such a beautiful, well-maintained space with an amazing variety of trees that make every visit feel a little different. The animal area is a lovely touch and always a highlight, especially for families. And I’m always happy to spot squirrels running around - it really adds to the charm of the park. A perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Definitely a 5-star spot!
