Explore this historic Victorian park featuring children's play areas, sports facilities, and a lakeside setting perfect for families.

Alexandra Park is a beautifully restored Victorian park designed in 1869 and opened to the public in 1870. The park underwent a £5 million transformation in 2013/14 with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, bringing its community facilities back to life. Families can enjoy dedicated children's play areas suitable for ages 12 and under, alongside extensive sports and recreational facilities including tennis courts, a multi-use games area (MUGA), cricket square, football pitch, and a fishing lake. The park offers something for everyone, with Coffee Cranks Café open Sunday to Tuesday (11am-4pm) providing refreshments for visitors. Facilities include accessible toilets with baby change facilities, sports changing rooms with showers, and free wifi at multiple locations throughout the park. The distinctive oval-shaped and curved pathways designed by Alexander Hennell remain a unique feature of the landscape. Open from dawn to dusk, Alexandra Park is an ideal destination for families seeking free outdoor activities combined with quality facilities. The park's location in Whalley Range makes it easily accessible, and its mix of recreational, sporting, and leisure amenities ensures there's something for all ages and interests.

This is the most beautiful and big park in Oldham town. A top choice if you want to relax out in the nature and want to see different species of flowers, trees and animals, take pictures near the lake and admire the landscapes. The park also has several tennis courts, a playing ground for children too, lawn ball game courts, and plenty of benches for sitting throughout the whole park.

Great park, went a lot in my youth. Really nice cafe (but no hot food on a weekend park run day), but nice cakes, smoothies and drinks. Park was full of people chilling in the sun, doing tai-chi, capoeira etc, watched a proper cricket match with two teams in whites. Had a lovely afternoon.

Beautiful park with great facilities and lots of wildlife, lovely all year round but especially stunning in the spring when the bluebells and wild garlic are in bloom, and the ducklings are still tiny and fluffy. The public toilets in the cafe are always clean and in good working order, including a wheelchair accessible and gender neutral stall with baby changing table, and the cafe itself serves great food and coffee/tea all year round. There are multiple children's play areas and grass football and cricket pitches, and bookable tennis courts too.

This park is beautiful with cherry blossom. The staff at Chorlton Lodge are very kind and friendly. It's good for family gathering snd solo jogging.

Alexandra Park is a solid option if you’re after a calm, easy walk rather than a big “wow” moment. It’s fairly spacious, well-kept, and good for clearing your head or getting some steps in. While it’s not the most exciting park and can feel a little dull at times, that quietness is also part of the appeal - especially if you want somewhere peaceful and uncrowded. The paths are straightforward and suitable for a relaxed stroll, light exercise, or walking with company without too much distraction.
