Ride authentic steam and diesel trains through Staffordshire countryside on a preserved narrow-gauge heritage railway operated entirely by volunteers.

Amerton Railway offers visitors a nostalgic journey back in time aboard historic narrow-gauge trains. Located in the rolling Staffordshire countryside, this independent charity operates scenic one-mile train rides in vintage 1930s carriages, departing from Amerton station and traveling through the fields to Chartley Halt. Passengers can enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of a working heritage railway while learning about Staffordshire's industrial past. The railway houses an impressive collection of historic locomotives, including beautifully restored steam engines and vintage diesel engines. Isabel, the flagship engine, is 129 years old and was built in Stafford. The collection features designs from renowned manufacturers including Bagnall, Kerr Stuart, Hunslet, and Ruston. At Chartley Halt, visitors can disembark to enjoy a dedicated picnic viewing area where they can watch trains pass by, or remain on board for the return journey. Amerton Railway is particularly suitable for families and heritage enthusiasts of all ages. The venue operates regular weekend passenger services during the summer running season, with special events including popular Santa Specials during the festive period. Every aspect of the railway is maintained and operated by a dedicated team of volunteers, who have been recognized with The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. As a registered charity, the venue welcomes donations and memberships to support the preservation of narrow-gauge railway heritage.

My granddaughter absolutely loved the xmas train to toyland. Really good Xmas gift from santa. We had mince pie and sherry. Great value for money. To see my granddaughter that excited and happy was priceless. Well done to all the volunteers who put the effort in. Would really recommend this experience. Farm shop and craft stalls were fantastic too 🎊🎉🎄🎄🤶

A lovely family experience for all with a warm mince pie and sherry (or OJ) as the little ones have a quick chat with the main man and a, as the website states "wrap-up warm" the compartments are a partly open to the elements. Just hope one day the car park receives some love for the many potholes.

Absolutely brilliant, really good price for what you get, you go around the track twice. Lovely staff and a really cute little shop after. You even get the old type train ticket to keep, amazing, will be back 🥰🥰

An absolutely delightful little railway. Your ticket gets you two round trips and is exceedingly great value. Just £6 for me and my 2 daughters (4 and 1). The guard was even kind enough to give us a look in the shed. This is was our third visit and we definitely will return. Our previous visit had been for their santa special which again was amazing value
