I recently visited Apedale for the first time and I had a brilliant day. I did the mine tour and I really enjoyed it. The guide was very friendly and informative. I'm not from the Stoke area originally so I didn't really know much about mining before the tour. I learnt a lot about the history and conditions of mining. I did a tour of the museum afterwards. That is well laid out with a good selection of exhibits to look at. I finished off with some sausage and cheese oatcakes and a coffee at the cafe. They offer a good range of food and drink at a reasonable price. There is also the railway and the spacious park to walk around if you want to. A great day out.

We loved it here. The cafe and the ladies in it are a credit to the place. The prices are amazing the food and service is second to none. The walks are amazing and the museum is free to get in fab.. will go bk for mine tour . 100% recommend for everyone. Thank you all .

Almost 3 visits: the heritage centre, the light yrailway, and hilly walks. Cafe, toilets all good. You can park on the long road if the car parks are full. The heritage centre includes a difficult walk down the drift mine. Utterly amazing but not for wheelchairs!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Powerful Day of Reflection and Discovery We visited Apedale Heritage Centre as a group of men from our local church in Shavington, and it turned out to be far more than just a day out—it was a deeply humbling experience. We arrived early to prepare for the coal mine tour, and the on-site restaurant was a welcome surprise. A few of us hadn’t had breakfast, so we tucked into a hearty meal before the session began. The food was genuinely good and set the tone for what was to come. The coal mine tour itself was an eye-opener. Walking through the tunnels and hearing the stories of the miners gave us a profound appreciation for the grit and sacrifice of those who worked underground to provide for their families. Seeing the heavy equipment they carried and learning how many tons of coal had to be mined just to earn a decent day’s pay—it was sobering. The guides were knowledgeable and passionate, walking us through the mining process and the health and safety measures that were in place. It wasn’t just informative—it was emotional. We left with a renewed respect for the men who laboured in those conditions, and a deeper sense of gratitude. Highly recommend this experience for anyone looking to connect with the region’s industrial heritage and reflect on the strength of character it took to build it.

Fabulous experience visiting this museum. All the staff are lovely and very informative, Barrie especially went out of his way to give us lots of information, lovely guy. The museum is brilliant plenty to look at and well looked after . We did the coal mining tour, we had 2 tour guides Richard and Steve which they were brilliant at explaining and answering any questions. Very friendly. The mines are incredible, an experience I shall never forget. There is a cafe which is lovely, nice food and hot drinks for a good price. It Would be a great day out for all ages. Would recommend to anyone, I will definitely be returning in the future. Thanks again. 😊
