A lovely country park located near a globally busy airport. Free parking which is appreciated. Playground, walks, wildlife. Enjoyed the visit. There was a notice for volunteering which is a great way for someone to give back and learn new skills.
A wonderful place to come for a walk or run. You can choose between 3 carparks on the north side and 1 on the south. Looked like the north and south sections aren't connected so guessing they are separate parks. Car parking is free which is rare these days.
Bedfont Lakes Country Park is absolutely exceptional! 🤩 I had such a wonderful time here. The picnic area was perfect for a relaxing afternoon, and it's fantastic to see how dog-friendly it is too. 🐾 The facilities, including the toilets, were spotless. What a gem of a park! ✨
Situated just a stone's throw from the western edge of Heathrow Airport, Bedfont Lakes Country Park is a breathtaking example of environmental reclamation. Once a site of extensive gravel extraction and landfill, this 180-acre landscape has been meticulously transformed into one of the most important wildlife sanctuaries in South West London. It is a place of deep blue waters, swaying reedbeds, and wildflower-rich meadows that offer a startlingly peaceful contrast to the nearby roar of the city. The park is a mosaic of habitats, featuring two main lakes—the North Lake and the South Lake—which act as a vital refuge for wintering wildfowl and rare birds. The terrain is varied and engaging, with winding paths that lead through "The Orchard," across elevated viewpoints, and into the "Nature Reserve" area (accessible by permit for serious naturalists). It’s a landscape that rewards the quiet observer; here, you can watch the dance of dragonflies over the water or spot a kestrel hunting over the long grasses. Whether you are following the fitness trail, exploring the extensive play areas, or simply soaking in the expansive sky-views, Bedfont Lakes provides a sophisticated and restorative escape into the natural world. Tips for your visit: • The Viewpoint: Head to the highest point in the park near the North Lake. On a clear day, it offers a unique perspective where you can see the natural tranquility of the lakes in the foreground and the giant aircraft descending toward Heathrow in the distance. • Dog-Friendly Zones: While much of the park is welcoming to dogs, the designated Nature Reserve section is a protected area. Be sure to check the signage to see where your four-legged companions can run off-lead and where they need to be on a leash. • Bird Watching: The park is famous for its populations of Bitterns (in winter) and hobbies (in summer). Bring binoculars and head to the quiet screens near the South Lake for the best sightings. • The Information Centre: Located at the main entrance, the centre often has displays about the park’s history and the various species of flora and fauna currently in season. Bedfont Lakes Country Park is a resilient and beautiful sanctuary that proves how nature can flourish with care and vision, even in the most urban of environments. 🌳🦆🌿
This big park has tons of walking paths, several lakes, restrooms, play areas for kids, lots of different birds, and plenty of parking.
