Lovely 8 acre wildlife water gardens created from disused clay pits. Featuring a variety of Water Lillie's when in bloom, along with other aquatic plants. There are various benches and picnic tables for enjoying a packed lunch, but no food or drinks are allowed in the gazebos, meaning limited areas of shade for eating. There is a cafe before entering the gardens which is reasonably priced and has indoor and outdoor seating areas. Your garden entry ticket is for all day admission so you can exit to the cafe and still go back into the gardens afterwards. There's a reasonable amount of parking, but none in a shaded area. The customer toilets are between the cafe and garden entrance/shop and are wheelchair accessible. There is also a wheelchair accessible route round most of the gardens.
Beautiful landscaped area from old claypits now forming multiple ponds with various types of colourful Water Lillie's, a Monet Bridge and an Oriental Bridge. We were lucky to visit in early July on a hot sunny day so we experienced the Water Gardens at their very best. June and July I guess would be the ideal time to visit, although the information we read suggested there are some pond Lillie's around outside this period. Very quiet and peaceful with ducks waddling to and from the ponds and one swan to complete the setting. We spent 3 hours there going around twice and managed to find shaded seating to sit and eat our take out lunch. There are gazebos on site but apparently you cannot use these to sit and eat food which is a shame especially on a hot day. There is a picnic area available but this is in full sun. Overall worth the £14.85 entrance fee each for this time of year. I'm not sure if this is reduced out of the main season, hopefully it is as the experience won't be the same without the multiple colourful Lillie's on display. Definitely worth a visit but go in the high season for a better a more colourful experience.
If you like water lilies then you'll enjoy a couple of hours wandering around the ponds. There is a huge variety of lilies in different shapes and colours. Whilst the flowers are the stars of the show there is also a Monet bridge and a couple of Japanese bridges as well as benches to sit and enjoy the view. There is a small gift shop, plant shop and cafe. However you might like to take a picnic with champagne as we saw one group doing
A little smaller than I had anticipated but still a very nice area that offers those there a lovely tranquility. The gardens are well maintained, as are most of the surrounding walkways. The map provided is wonderfully detailed and the area overall is very picturesque.
Wow, what a hidden gem this is....Visited for the first time today for the easter trail. A welcome change to most trails, children having to draw what they find, great idea! Had the place to ourselves, sun was shining and thoroughly enjoyed exploring. So quiet and tranquil despite its location, very well maintained and beautiful designs. Large chequers board was a nice addition along the route, some tower building fun was had. Little Museum on exit. Large cafe area and little gift shop, will definatley be recommending however my only negative reflected in my star rating is that i feel the entrance price is very high especially during the season before blooms etc,£10 per adult, £4 child becomes very expensive few hours out for a family with limited activities.
