This is truly a special place. A most beautiful church with an incredibly varied history. Amazing statuary and carvings throughout the Minster. A warm welcome from the volunteers and so, so much to take in. Repeat visits for me are necessary.
Absolutely beautiful architecture. What an amazing building with lots of history. Definitely a must see if you like looking around historical/religious buildings. Free to look around too so great if you're on a budget. However if you're able it's always great to leave a donation. At certain times of year they also do roof tours, but it's always best to check if they're running before going if that's what you're aiming to do. They also have a great little gift shop and self service, donation based, tea and coffee facilities. There are minster staff on hand in various places around the minster too, so if you have any questions just fire away. They're always happy to help. Lovely people and a lovely place to visit.
We lived in Beverley for ~18 months and regularly visited the Minster. It is a beautiful building and so impressive; with so much history to see. The architecture is amazing, with its towering ceilings and well-proportioned rooms / aisles. There are so many 'photo opportunities' to have. A visit to the Minster will be certainly worthwhile.
A Gothic masterpiece is one description of this massive church, bigger than some cathedrals. The Beverly Minster is also officialy the Parish church of St. Jobn and St. Martin. Entry is officially free but they do welcome donations and have a gift shop, all to fund ongoing maintenance and restoration work. The fantastic "Threads" exhibition of textile panels by Jacqi Parkinson was also on display when I visited. This was a lovely to spend an hour, so much to see. The large stain glass window is magnificent. No two panels the same. The two towers have bells and a clock, inside has a pipe organ on a wooden structure above the choir. Both west towers contain bells. The south-west tower contains a non-swinging bourdon bell called Great John. It chimes the hour and it dates from 1901. It weighs over 7 tons and it is over 7 feet in diameter. The chimes for each quarter are rung on the 10 bells in the north-west tower.
This was our main attraction to visit for our visit to Beverley and we weren't disappointed. Beautiful Minister with lots of interesting history. As a family historian, I always linger whilst looking at all the tombstones and memorials, and there are especially lots of military ones. Free to visit but donations appreciated.
