Fantastic! Beautiful church, amazing ceiling, tranquil setting, lovely stained glass.

Good sized car park which serves the church and English Heritage priory ruins. Both are free to enter and the EH site is well maintained and perfect for a picnic.

This review is for the ruined priory and not the church (that has been reviewed seperately). I would recommend visiting both together (rude not to). Although this is English Heritage managed, it is free. Parking is ample. This is a mid 12th century, small priory. It was started up with just 3 Benedictine Monks. The priory itself is a quiet ruin set amidst quiet rural grassland. St Mary and St Blaize church beside it is worth a visit and a wander around its graveyard. Parking is available in the village itself with a handful of places near to the church. It is a Catholic church so contains different sculptures and 'feel' to other Church of England churches. Children will enjoy the space to explore in the graveyard and finding the USA flag adorned grave of an American pilot killed on his return flight as an RAF pilot to a local runway. A stained glass window also marks his sacrifice. A high painted ceiling and various styles of stained glass will inspire admiration and perhaps creativity.

I visited for a Sunday Service. The Church is a few minutes walk from the main road, with an impressive view of the Monastery. The 12th Century ruins give an idea of how the Monastery may have looked. The Church is beautiful and peaceful inside. If you get the chance to visit for a Service, the Choir are very high standard - both with their standard of singing, and their beautiful harmonies.
