A beautiful museum, that explores the rich history of Braintree town centre. The exhibitions sometimes rotate so they maybe a new one next time you visit. Wonderful little cafe on the grounds. A fantastic gift shop. Friendly staff and clean inside.
A very important and beautiful structure right in the middle of town. Would recommend as an unmissable part of any journey to Braintree. The museum provides a journey through Braintree's past with relics through Roman, Victorian, and Modern times. The building itself was a significant school at one time and the cafe had wonderful treats. The staff, and Maggie in particular, were knowledgable and kind and would go out of their way to make sure your trip is a memorable one. Entry is only at £5 and there does not seem to be a promotion for free Saturday entry.
Great little museum covering the history of Braintree and Bocking. Local family firms including the Courtaulds who set up many institutions in Braintree.
Great museum and aLots to doNice little museum of local history, which also has exhibitions with a wider context, such as the current 'Space fact and fiction one.' There is a reproduction early 20th century classroom so children can see what they were like. A good experience and recommended.. Friendly staff most importantly Parking just across the road.
What once was a school is now a museum that details the history of Braintree and it's a thoroughly engaging affair. The museum itself is largely geared towards kids/families, but there's a surprising amount to learn here for anyone interested and it's all concise and certainly keeps your attention. Be sure to look out for the model recreations of the various species of dinosaurs (again, fascinating reading), as well the classroom complete with tables and chalkboard - a far cry from what a typical classroom looks like today. Entry is usually £5 but Saturdays nets you free entry and with the usual café and souvenir shop, you'll have plenty to digest here. If you have kids and are looking for something a little different then Braintree District Museum may tick some boxes for you.
