Bridgeton Bus Garage - Home of the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust

Glasgow, United Kingdom•4.8(479)•Heritage Site, Museum

Explore Scotland's largest collection of historic buses and vintage vehicles in a working garage, with free rides, guided tours, and family-friendly events.

Bridgeton Bus Garage is home to the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust, a volunteer-run charity dedicated to preserving Scottish transport heritage. Unlike traditional museums behind glass, this hands-on venue allows visitors to explore one of Scotland's largest collections of historic buses, coaches and commercial vehicles in a working garage setting. Families can browse the collection, chat with dedicated volunteers who maintain these vehicles, and experience free rides on buses that once served Glasgow's streets. The collection tells fascinating stories of Glasgow and Scottish transport history, ranging from a Glasgow-built Albion that spent decades in Sydney to a London Routemaster that later ran Glasgow's Magicbus routes. The Museum & Archive complements the vehicles with photographs, records and artefacts that provide deeper context. Regular event days typically occur on the first Sunday of each month from Spring through Autumn, plus an Annual Open Weekend in October, with additional Guided Tours available year-round by advance booking. Visitors of all ages find value here—from five-year-olds to senior enthusiasts—making it one of Glasgow's more affordable family days out. The venue is fully accessible with an accessible toilet, wide doorways, and a modern accessible bus for rides. Dogs on leads are welcome throughout most areas. Clippies Cafe provides refreshments on event days, with additional catering at larger events. The garage is conveniently located in the East End of Glasgow near Bridgeton Railway Station and multiple bus routes.

What a fantastic family day out. I took my 2 grandsons to the Family Community Day and we all had a brilliant time. Shuttle bus was great each way, travelling in a bus from a bygone era reminiscing and telling the boys about how the conductor rang the bell and gave you your tickets etc. The garage experience was excellent. Everyone made you so welcome. The big band and rock & roll dancers really put everything into their performance 👏 An extensive range of vehicles on display from every era including emergency, military and movies to name a few with obviously buses from years gone by. All in all a day to remember at an extremely well organised and excellent value for money event. Thank you Marie

Great place to visit, run by enthusiastic volunteers. Their focus is vintage buses, mainly Glasgow Corporation but extends to other commercial vehicles. Open day Sundays and special weekend events see this extended to include cars, motorbikes, military vehicles etc. Fleet of old buses run to and from town centre or provide round trips from garage on open days. A pit stop at the Clippie's Café always hits the spot. Great for all, young kids to grandparents.

I’m not particularly into buses but I found the tour very interesting and our guide was very knowledgeable. Definitely worth visiting!

Fantastic museum and the volunteers are so knowledgeable, approachable and passionate about every vehicle in the garage. Laying eyes on the bus that would take me to work every day in life was a nostalgia trip I didn’t expect and it was wonderful to access some of the buses. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back. My dad and brother also enjoyed it and we’re looking forward to the open days. Highly recommended!

Nice to hear history, but you can't go inside any of the buses.... archive and museum bit is more interesting if you have kids, but its very small. In my opinion the place is mostly for adults and/or bus lovers.... I was with my nearly 3 y.o. girl and she only played a bit at the museum, the rest was boring for her
