Bristol Cathedral is a historic cathedral with a mixture of medieval and later architecture, including areas rebuilt after damage over the centuries. There are good signs throughout explaining the history and features of the building. Highlights include the impressive Chapter House, built in the 12th century, and an Anglo-Saxon carving believed to date from the 11th century. The cathedral also contains some notable reminders of Bristol's more complicated history, including memorials connected to Edward Colston. Gardens: Small garden in the former cemetery. Admission: Free, with a suggested donation.
A visit to Bristol Cathedral is an immersive journey through centuries of history and breathtaking Gothic architecture. Even on a rainy day, it remains an ideal refuge, as the changing light through the windows creates an incredibly moody and peaceful atmosphere. From the moment you step onto the iconic black-and-white checkered marble floors, the sheer scale and intricate detail of the building are awe-inspiring. * Architectural Grandeur: The cathedral is renowned for its stunning vaulted ceilings and magnificent stained-glass windows that bathe the interior in a serene, colorful light. * Intricate Details: Every corner reveals something new, from the beautifully carved stone screens and ornate reredos behind the altar to the historic monuments and effigies nestled in side chapels. * Unique Features: Don't miss the impressive organ and the various memorials, such as the Codrington Memorial, which provide a poignant look into the local history and the cathedral's long-standing heritage. * Atmosphere: Despite its grand scale, the cathedral maintains a peaceful and contemplative atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for quiet reflection or simply to admire the craftsmanship of a bygone era. Whether you're a fan of history, architecture, or are just looking for a beautiful place to explore in the heart of Bristol, this cathedral is an absolute must-see. Its warm interior and grand stone walls make it the perfect place to dry off and get lost in thought while the rain taps against the ancient glass.
This is what I deam. Pillars of Knowledge of being a Human. Those men who laboured to build this Cathedral to stand to the end of the universe. Did it for you humans. No matter who where. You are blood. Bones. Tissues. Ligaments. Human. No matter where around the world. Face the fact of life in parables. Do unto others as they do unto you. Come to me you children who have suffered. This is my home. My place of contemplating life. Trying to understand why children are suffering where parents surely don't want children to suffer but grow with prosperity of giving happiness to their parents. It is more than the pillars of wisdom. Its a place where you go to be with your loved ones. And to understand in solitude. Peace. Harmony. That silence is golden. That golden moment with the ones that gave you live and love.
An interestingvisit to the Cathedral. Free to enter. As ever you could spend the whole day reading and learning. We had a longish hour or so and found the place interesting. The religious areas are not shoved at people but there is and overstanding area for peace.
The Cathedral is a marvellous example of craftsmanship over the centuries. There are many beautiful chapels and the architecture is spectacular. There is also a lovely cafe. The stained glass windows reflecting WW2 with those on the home front were lovely and interesting. There is good information around the cathedral. Naturally the Cathedral in the centre of the city and easy to find and definitely worth a visit. No fixed entry fee but donations are welcome.
