First of all, I’m not the kind to write reviews let alone bad ones, but I just have to speak up about this. I went on a run this evening around brooke park as I do regularly and stopped at the bench by the pond to take a breather. There was a couple down by the lower bench chatting, lads still playing football, people walking their dog. I watched a security van drive and pull up by the road and assumed they were closing up so I headed to the path to walk to the gate. I had my earphones in and the man had gotten out of the van, standing shouting by the path. I took my earphones out to apologise and to hear what he was shouting- “You shouldn’t be sitting there with your earphones in” I apologised again and said I hadn’t realised he was trying to lock up “it’s young girls like you who are to blame” “Shouldn’t be here in the dark by yourself” Mind you: it’s summer. It was still BRIGHT out. Most people listen to music while running. I completely understand he was locking up, my fault for not checking opening times, but with people still lingering about I assumed wrong. But I’ve never received that level of condescension while I’m just out trying to run with a bit of music playing. I turned to him and said “it’s not young girls who are to blame” as I walked past him and he continued to shout abuse “oh you want to be smart with me then”. I took no more heed and walked on as he actually sped past me in his van. All he needed to say was “I’m closing up now would you take yourself on out there” But “It’s young girls like you who are to blame” Excuse me? If any concern or good intention was present I wouldn’t be upset in the slightest. But I was not rude, I was genuinely apologising for not knowing he was closing up until he made those remarks. To insinuate that I’m the reason why I can’t feel safe in a public park and not predators is shocking to me. As a young woman and as a uni student here, I worry about my safety regardless in this society, but blaming women for the actions of predators is NOT the way to make anyone feel safe or even welcome at that. I will be taking this further.

Great park! Play area, cafe, fish and places to play football (on a slope!) 😁

Deceptively bigger than it seems. This is a great park for a long walk - the whole place is very well maintained with beautiful trees and intersecting paths. There’s a cafe in the middle, plus toilets, and a good big play park for kids, suitable for a range of ages. There are swings and merry-go-rounds for wheelchair users. There’s a lake in the centre of the park. And there’s just fantastic views out over the city. Multiple car parks

Beautiful park that is well maintained and has lovely views of the city. The cafe is excellent as well. The staff are lovely, service is excellent, there's plenty of selection on the menu and it is reasonably priced. The club sandwich is well worth getting, and the scones are great as well. Will definitely return to try other things on the menu. Highly recommended!!!
