Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom•4.6(156)•Country Park, Nature Reserve

Explore a Green Flag-awarded 120-acre natural habitat with woodlands, wildflower meadows, ponds and walking routes perfect for families and dog walkers.

Bunkers Park is a stunning 120-acre public greenspace located on the eastern edge of Hemel Hempstead. Once farmland for over 200 years, the site has been transformed into a mosaic of diverse habitats including new woodlands, vibrant wildflower meadows, ponds and winding footpaths. The park was awarded a Green Flag in 2015, recognising its outstanding quality and management. Visitors can enjoy multiple walking routes, including the popular 2.4km plantation/cornfield walk that takes approximately 3,100 steps. The park is crisscrossed with footpaths offering wonderful opportunities for exploration and discovery. Seven distinct points of interest are scattered throughout, including Bottom Field, Chambersbury Woods, Long Saunders, Mattens, Pond Field and Top Field, each offering unique natural experiences. Bunkers Park has become one of the county's most important butterfly habitats, with twenty-five species recorded, and provides crucial breeding grounds for declining bird species such as corn bunting, yellowhammer, song thrush and skylark. The park is dog-friendly and features free parking with accessible facilities, making it ideal for families with young children in pushchairs and dog owners. The site is managed through a partnership between Dacorum Borough Council, Nash Mills Parish Council and volunteers from the Friends of Bunkers Park, who work tirelessly to maintain this valued community green space.

Absolutely love taking my two dogs here for a walk and run off their leads. Very open and spacious. Free car park. And it has my dog’s seal of approval too.

A beautiful open space dog walking heaven! It's a fun space with a plethora of activities taking place, most commonly dog walking, but there are also group activities like dog social training in groups too. Also, lots of hobbyists do all sorts of activities like model planes, drone flying, and even paragliding. There are lots of available parking spaces, and I've never been there and have not been able to find parking, though 1 negative is after any heavy rain or snow, the driveway leading in becomes more pothole less asphalt!

Best place to let your dog have a great run! Enclosed paddocks, pretty pathways and wild flowers in spring

Great open space. You can quitely enjoy the nature, have a picnic with friends or socialise with other people and dogs. Nice place to have a rest. Parking area could be bigger.

Brilliant place for dog walking with plenty of Dog foul bins. Many a meandering path leading to wild flower meadows and other conservation areas. I found this great open space late in the year. So not many wild flowers but beautiful all the same. Im looking forward to going back in late autumn as it has many different species of woodland trees so the colours should be amazing.
