Callington Road Nature Reserve is a local green space tucked away between Brislington and Knowle in south Bristol (BS4/BS14), just off the A4174 Callington Road. The local nature reserve has a fascinating history. Part of the land was previously used for allotments, while another portion was designated as surplus land and developed alongside the adjacent Callington Road Hospital in the early 2000s. Funding from hospital development helped establish the nature reserve, creating dedicated footpaths, native tree plantings, and wildlife habitats. As can be seen from the photographs, the wildflower meadow and the pond are quite dry at the moment, which may lead some native fauna and birdlife to seek water elsewhere. However, the reserve is historically home to owls, bats, badgers, foxes, moles, and much more. Although few may realize, the hospital and the nature reserve are integral to each other, with native species sharing a joint adjacent habitat. Indeed, both times building work was started at the hospital in the last couple of years, badgers moved into newly dug foundations, and work had to be halted.

The place is nice but could be a bit more looked after (although I visited in beginning of March..) I was missing a few benches where you could just sit and enjoy the birds tweeting. I am not sure why but the entrance from Talbot road is closed (and it's not the entrance of the allotments).. So I had to go around to get in.

This is the perfect place for an easy dog walk. It's huge and my dog loves sniffing along the different paths I can easily be out with her for 40 minutes. It's also very clean, I never see any rubbish.
