We visited Calton Hill after walking through the streets of Edinburgh for a couple of hours. The walk is very steep just before you get to the top where the best view of the city is possible. Since we had limited time we headed to the top to get some photos and to catch a glimpse of the bay. Nice place for photos and set down rest and take in the scenery.

An excellent viewpoint offering free views of Edinburgh city! It's just a 10- to 15-minute easy, casual walk from the city centre. It's good for families with children and the elderly.

Calton Hill is one of the best places to visit in Edinburgh. The panoramic views of the city, Arthur’s Seat, and the Firth of Forth are absolutely stunning. With iconic landmarks such as the National Monument, Nelson Monument, and Dugald Stewart Monument, it combines history, architecture, and scenery in one location. A perfect spot for a walk, photography, or watching the sunset

Possibly the best place to go for a walk and absorb views of Edinburgh. But definitely our favorite. Anytime of day, Calton Hill is a treat.

Calton Hill offers arguably one of the best views across Edinburgh’s city centre. From here, you can see most of the city, Arthurs Seat, and of course the castle. It’s the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and you’ll be treated to awesome views of the castle in the distance. Calton Hill was formed over 340 million years ago. It has a huge history from the prehistoric era to today. It was originally a hill fort in ancient times, then King James II of Scotland granted the lands to Edinburgh in 1456. Calton Hill sits just off Leith Street near Edinburgh’s popular commercial area. Like many of the parks in the area, it’s free to enter so you won’t need to reach into your wallet for this one. If you’re looking for some of the best views in Edinburgh then make sure you spend some time here. There’s also an art gallery up on Calton Hill and an unfinished national monument so there’s plenty to see! If you only have time to visit one viewpoint in the city, let this be it. It’s a fantastic place to watch the sunset or see the breathtaking views.
