We walked the coast from Lavernock to Cardiff... this barrage is a very handy shortcut!!!! That said, it's well worth a visit in it's own right. Amazing feet of engineering, and fantastic views... and since we were walking Lavernock to Cardiff and back we got to enjoy it twice!!!

A great place for a walk. A bit windy today. But also great for cycling as it's flat. But there are lots of hills in Cardiff, the famous "Alp-de-Penarth" being just around the corner. There are circular walks right around the bay of you'd like. Or you can park somewhere and walk "there and back", probably with a coffee or ice cream involved somewhere along your journey. Enjoy the view of the boats passing in our out of the barrage of the tide and sea traffic allow. Or, watch coastal freighters, tugs and dredgers going on and out of Queen Alexandra Dock. You can while away an hour or six in this area. Lots of nearby eateries, pubs or entertainment.

It is a fascinating place to be as you can see the huge lock gates operating when there's a high tide, but it is just as interesting when the tide is out, as it was for us yesterday. We had amazing views over to Flatholm and Steepholm islands in one direction, and the buildings of Cardiff Bay in the other. It is a wonderful place to be and I highly recommend it.
