Castlerigg Stone Circle is one of the most atmospheric and visually stunning historical sites in the Lake District. Unlike other commercialised ancient monuments, this Neolithic site remains completely open and unspoilt, allowing you to walk right up to and touch the stones. The 360-degree panoramic views of the surrounding fells, including Skiddaw and Blencathra, are absolutely breathtaking. It is an incredibly peaceful place to sit, take photos, and soak in thousands of years of history.Access is very straightforward—it is just a short 5-minute drive or a steady uphill walk from Keswick town centre. There is free parking available in the lay-bys right next to the field, making it highly accessible for everyone. Best of all, entry is completely free, though it is managed beautifully by English Heritage and the National Trust. Highly recommend visiting at sunset or sunrise for the best views!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Castlerigg Stone Circle is one of the most incredible places I've ever visited. Standing among stones that have been here for around 4,500 years is a truly humbling experience. It's amazing to think that this ancient monument was built during the late Neolithic period, long before modern history began, and it still stands proudly today. What makes Castlerigg even more special is its breathtaking location. The stone circle is surrounded by stunning Lake District mountains in every direction, creating one of the most spectacular and peaceful landscapes you'll find anywhere in the UK. Whether you're interested in history, archaeology, photography, or simply enjoying nature, this place is an absolute must-visit. I visited recently and was amazed by the atmosphere. Walking around the stones while taking in the panoramic mountain views is an unforgettable experience. I've attached my photos and videos, but they still don't do justice to how beautiful this place is in person. If you're visiting Keswick or the Lake District, don't miss Castlerigg Stone Circle. It's a magical place where history and nature come together perfectly. Highly recommended!

Magnificent, Magical & Mystical. If you're ever in the north Lakes this is well worth a visit. It can get busy and difficult to park on the narrow approach road so if you have a choice try early or late or when it's wet for a moody experience. MMM

It was wonderful to see these ancient stones in such a stunning setting. We were privileged to be one of very few people visiting today. Unfortunately Blu our Border collie slipped her harness at the sight of her first close up of some sheep and lambs. She did a grand job of rounding them up before returning to be strapped up again. No harm done. Sox our cat was very interested in the grass and was a bit confused about how he would hunt the lambs as they were twice his size 🤣

Thank you for a wonderful experience. I have been coming here for many years, in different seasons, different days and at different times, and it has always brought me great joy. The view is always different and the atmosphere always unique. Even though there are usually visitors, I often manage to find quiet moments alone with the place. I highly recommend it. It is an exceptionally atmospheric place. So far, I have not found anything better.
