We went to see this house after deciding against Jane Austen's house and were utterly entranced! There is a very interesting church, St Nicholas, in the grounds which we spent a lot of time in before heading up to the house. We had lunch in the "scullery" which was lovely and for which we didn't need to have an entrance ticket. The food was freshly cooked and of a high quality. We're definitely returning! Unfortunately, we spent so much time over lunch we didn't have enough time to actually look round the house or gardens. We will, to coin a phrase, be back!!
Lovely setting and interesting history. Well labelled. Good guided tours. Nice tea room with indoor and outdoor space.
Fantastic house and gardens. The volunteers were so friendly and helpful which really made our visit. The house has a real charm about it and having tea in the kitchen is very atmospheric. RHS member discount too. 😍
This is a little gem. Amazing history especially for Jane Austin lovers. Interesting house. Parkland alongside provides good ambling. Lovely snowdrop display in February. Children's trail round the house. Fantastic collection of books in library, but have to ask to visit that room, strictly to touching. A nice view of the steam train smoke from the library terrace.
Impressive place to visit in a beautiful location. It's relatively modest in size and is child friendly. The tea room, especially in good weather, is excellent. If you're interested in 19th century literature and the contributions of women in particular this place is a goldmine.
