Churchill Gardens

Bournemouth, United Kingdom•4.1(377)•City Park

Explore a historic Victorian garden square in Boscombe featuring ornate architecture, green spaces, and community events for all ages.

Churchill Gardens is a beautifully preserved Victorian park established between 1893 and 1912 in the heart of Boscombe. Originally developed as Gower Gardens for cricket and recreation, the site was transformed into an architecturally significant green space featuring distinctive Early Vernacular and Domestic Revival style buildings with ornate fretwork porches, tile-hung gables, mock Tudor timberwork, and Elizabethan-style glazing. The open, airy garden square now serves as the centrepiece of the Churchill Gardens Conservation Area. The park welcomes families and visitors of all ages to enjoy outdoor recreation and community activities. As a free, dog-friendly and pushchair-friendly venue, it accommodates everyone from babies and young children to older residents and their pets. The Churchill Gardens Community Association actively organizes events throughout the year and provides opportunities for community members to connect and engage with the space. Beyond its recreational value, Churchill Gardens holds historical significance as a testament to 19th-century urban planning that preserved green space amid rapid development. The site is maintained through conservation efforts and community involvement, making it an ideal destination for families seeking a peaceful outdoor setting with cultural and architectural interest. Visitors can enjoy the grounds while learning about the area's heritage and participating in local community initiatives.

Good sized town square in Boscombe edged with trees, mainly grass, a communal allotment, play area and Joy Cafe

It's the biggest playground in the area but a lot of equipment is getting old and tired or is already broken. It can keep smaller and bigger kids occupied for hours. There are various slides, swings, trampolines, carousel and cafe with a toilet. We are regular visitors and will definitely be coming back for the next few years. Just fix it and paint it asap.

I used to live opposite this park. Definitely was very nice. So it is lovely to see how incredible this is looking now. Has a fabulous veg patch in the middle in the growzone., and I was totally surprised that she also had a café in the middle. Has pletty for the kids to do swings, trampoline, basketball court, climbing things. Really nice Bournemouth is going a lot more green in their parks. Pletty bins for your dog walking.

Lovely park for the kids, and a bit different from the normal park activities,, also they had a food garden and a cafe, shame the veg wasn't being looked after to well, but a great idea,

I love this park. It has had a lot of time and money spent on it, it's no longer the awful park it once was. It's just opened its new cafe and veg garden. And has a totally different vibe now it's a great place to have a cheap day out in the sun with food and drinks.
