Clydach Vale Country Park

Clydach Vale, United Kingdom•4.6(764)•Country Park, Nature Reserve

Explore two scenic lakes, woodland trails, and wildlife spotting in this free country park built on a former colliery site, with a lakeside café for refreshments.

Cwm Clydach Country Park, also known as Clydach Vale Country Park, is a stunning nature-lover's destination set across expansive grounds featuring two beautiful lakes, extensive walking trails, and abundant wildlife. Visitors can enjoy circular routes around the lakes, spot resident kingfishers, feed ducks, and discover hidden mini lakes and waterfalls that appear after heavy rainfall. The park offers both gentle lakeside walks and more challenging routes into the surrounding mountains and forestry for those seeking longer adventures. The country park holds significant historical importance as the site of the former Cambrian Colliery, which operated from 1872 to 1965. Throughout the grounds, visitors will find memorials and markers dedicated to the miners and boys who worked in dangerous conditions, including a historic wheel, coal dram, and coal shaft lift cage. This unique blend of natural beauty and industrial heritage makes it educational for families interested in Welsh mining history. The venue is highly family-friendly and welcoming to all visitors. Free car parking is available, and the on-site Cambrian Lakeside Café provides refreshments with both outdoor seating and indoor areas. The park is dog-friendly, accessible with wheelchair access and disabled facilities, and suitable for all ages and abilities. Whether seeking peaceful nature walks, educational experiences, or family days out, Clydach Vale Country Park offers a memorable and free attraction.

Fabulous walk up to the Coal Minor memorial. Great to see the 1905 disaster acknowledged on the sign as nothing at all at any of the other places I visited

Gorgeous lakes nestled up tne top of the valley amid beautiful scenery with walks connecting all around. There are a few waterfalls at the top lake. Plenty of runners and dog walkers and people taking a dip in the small pool under the waterfall which is affectionately called 'the freezer' :D A small variety of waterfowl including the occasional grebe, and you can spot siskins here :)

This place is a real gem !. We had a great walk around here on Sunday 8th June. The dog absolutely loved it as well as us. Popped into the cafe for coffee and cake which was also very good. The staff that work there are very pleasant and helpful. We will definitely be coming back to explore the walks further.
