Explore one of the UK's best-preserved Victorian woollen mills with working textile crafts, steam engines, and 12 acres of heritage grounds since 1797.

Coldharbour Mill in Uffculme, Devon is one of the oldest woollen mills in the UK, operating continuously since 1797. Originally owned by the world-renowned Fox Brothers textile producers, this fine working wool museum allows visitors to experience the sights and sounds of the industrial revolution while watching skilled craftspeople produce traditional textiles, knitting yarn, and hand-woven rugs. The 12-acre Victorian mill complex features working and static exhibits showcasing boilers, steam engines, and the UK's largest breast-shot waterwheel still in action. Visitors can explore exhibits detailing the Fox Family's textile legacy, Quaker history, and their pioneering social reforms. The estate includes 10 acres of wetland and wildlife surrounding a historic mill pond under restoration. Coldharbour Mill is ideal for families and educational groups seeking an immersive heritage experience. The venue offers general admissions Tuesday to Saturday, plus special event days and workshops throughout the year. On-site facilities include the Grist Mill Café Bar for refreshments. Membership options provide unlimited annual access, and group visits are available by arrangement.

Looking forward to going inside however, the ticket price was to me a bit steep. Nice kept grounds and a nice walk across the road. I looked inside but looked as if it was truly abandoned with plastic chairs scattered around. A cafe is on site but didn’t stop.

Great place, lovely staff and great food in the cafe. Most areas are wheelchair accessible and there are lifts to all floors in the main building. Small gift shop with yarn producing in the mill.

We had a wonderful visit today from Falmouth University . Fascinating working museum with so much to see and learn. The staff and volunteers were welcoming and knowledgeable. So many volunteers help to keep everything going and make the archives accessible. A wonderful part of our heritage that deserves much acknowledgement, appreciation, and support. Thank you for letting us take photos so we can recall processes and look up more information about them and for sharing lots of stories with us too!

Fantastic to see the spinning and weaving machines in action, but not for long as they are very noisy. The steam engine is only running on special days but would be well worth seeing it running. The air raid shelter exhibition is good. All the staff and volunteers were very friendly and helpful in describing the work tending the machinery. Plenty of benches to sit and have a picnic.
