Explore an authentically preserved Victorian slate mine deep beneath the mountains of Snowdonia with expert guides and immersive historical storytelling.

Corris Mine Explorers offers visitors a unique underground adventure into the abandoned Braich Goch slate mine in North Wales, first excavated in the 1830s and abandoned in 1970. Equipped with hard hats and hand torches, guests follow the exact routes carved by Victorian miners, descending into broad tunnels and cavernous chambers where world-class slate was extracted by hand and explosive. The experience brings 130 years of mining history to life through engaging guides who share stories of the harsh working conditions and remarkable achievements of the miners who labored in these depths. Suitable for families with children aged 8 and above, the mine exploration trips are available year-round for individuals, couples, and groups. The venue is all-weather and ideal for rainy days, offering both educational value and thrilling adventure. The untouched state of the mine since its closure in the 1970s provides an authentic glimpse into a way of life and work that changed little throughout the mine's operational history. Award-winning and officially recognized as one of the best family attractions in Wales, Corris Mine Explorers has earned a TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Award and was named Best Activity/Experience in Mid Wales 2019/2020. The site benefits from its location within the UNESCO-recognized Slate Areas of Gwynedd World Heritage Site. Visitors can enjoy The Corris Café on-site and book gift experience vouchers for special occasions. School groups and educational visits are actively supported with tailored programs aligned to both Welsh and English national curricula.

We visited Corris Mine Explorers for the first time and had a fantastic experience. The reception staff were very welcoming, which made a great first impression. Tour guide explained the history of the corris mine clearly and shared lots of interesting information throughout the visit. It was both informative and engaging. We will definitely be visiting again!

A very fun and informative activity to do, especially on a rainy day. Our tour guide, Paul, was incredibly knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. Safety helmets, torches and wellies were all provided. Overall, a fantastic experience.

We booked in advance, and enjoyed an hour and a half touring this deep slate mine with (excellent) guide Paul. There are four steps to climb, and maybe half a mile of walking through mainly 2m x 2m tunnels. As we were the only guests, it was actually a private tour for my wife and I. The stories of the hard and dangerous work of 130-180 miners was really interesting. We had our questions answered during our visit to four chambers of the 84 in the mine. When Paul encouraged us to turn our lamps off, it was JET black darkness! Take walking boots or wellies, and warm clothes (as it’s 8’C in there). Thank you for a great tour, Paul. Highly recommended to others.

Situated within its own little village with a cafe craft shops, gin distillery and ice cream shop it’s got everything you need to start your day here. We pre booked our tickets and on arrival it’s the last building in the complex you book in at. (Number 11 I think ) staff very friendly and informative health and safety brief and a signature you’re then ready for the experience. Our guide today was Kelly she got us our hard hats lights and offered wellies for my niece who was 8 definitely recommend going in walking boots or wellies as it’s a little wet inside. I wore shorts and didn’t find it to cold but I do all year round so if you’re a little sensitive to the cold put some pants on. Short walk over the road and up the hill and you arrive at the entrance the tour was great very informative and was made even better by our guide Kelly she has loads of information that she tells you and answered all the questions from our group, she answered all questions and then added more info on the back of it fantastic guide and deserves recognition for her work great day had by all of us and definitely recommended. Thanks again

Me and my partner Laura love Wales and exploring, so we saw this and having done the "PG" version as Tim said with the King Arthur experience we very much looked forward to the full mine adventure. We had a wonderful guide named Tim who was an awesome chap, knew his stuff and definitely a fantastic character with a unique background. It was just me, my partner and Tim, we felt completely easy and safe with him, everything was explained so clearly and very easy to understand. Was catered to our wants and needs and the whole experience felt like it was a personal adventure for just us both. He took the time to show us everything that we could see due to the excessive rain, any questions we had he fully answered and it was a brilliant experience. The size and scale of this mine was unbelievable as well, the history and the preservation of this mine is incredible. Our favourite mine adventure that we have completed out of the ones we have done in Wales. Highly recommend this to anyone with a love of history or even just for great fun, Tim was absolutely brilliant 10/10 and we are most certainly looking to come back again and see the other Chambers!
