Beautiful Windmill, if you get the chance to see this windmill when it's open it's worth a visit, always some amazing sunsets here also if you happen to be passing at the right time, great place to sit and watch the day end.

Cromer Windmill is a fascinating hidden historical landmark in the Hertfordshire countryside and definitely worth visiting if you enjoy local heritage, countryside scenery and traditional English history. Dating back to 1681, it is Hertfordshire’s last surviving windmill and still feels incredibly authentic and atmospheric today. The windmill itself is beautifully preserved and seeing the enormous sails up close is genuinely impressive. The surrounding countryside is peaceful and scenic, making the whole experience feel calm and relaxing away from busy towns and tourist attractions. It is also an excellent place for photography, especially on sunny afternoons when the white sails stand out beautifully against the greenery and blue skies. One of the highlights of visiting is learning about how the windmill actually worked historically. The volunteer guides are very knowledgeable and passionate, explaining the machinery, restoration process and history of the site in a really engaging way. It is amazing to think this structure has survived for centuries and still stands proudly today. Opening times are seasonal, usually from mid-May until mid-September. The windmill is generally open every Sunday, the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month, and Bank Holiday Mondays between approximately 2:30pm and 5:00pm, so it is definitely worth checking the official website before travelling. Admission is also very affordable at around £3 for adults and £1 for children, which even includes the guided tour. There is free parking available opposite the windmill. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because facilities onsite are limited and opening times are quite restricted due to the attraction being volunteer-run. However, that actually adds to the authentic charm and peaceful atmosphere of the experience. A wonderful hidden gem full of history, character and beautiful countryside surroundings. Perfect for history lovers, photographers and anyone looking to explore a quieter and lesser-known part of Hertfordshire. 🌿🏛️✨

It was shut when we came, although we were just out driving. Looks very well maintained. Open Sundays, Bank Holidays and every 2nd and 4th Saturday. Open mid May to mid September 14:00 to 17:00.

We were visiting a nearby farm and noticed this was only about 4 minutes away, so we thought why not 😊 The mill itself was closed when we arrived, but we still managed to take a couple of lovely photos of the kids. They were really excited to see a windmill in real life, especially my daughter who absolutely loves windmills. Even from the outside, it’s a charming spot and well worth a quick stop if you’re in the area. We’ll definitely plan to come back in the summertime when it’s open and hopefully explore it properly. 🌾✨
