Easy to find and park. Free to enter. Bigger than you think and very interesting. Lots of great info on the people who lived in the Forest. Cafe there and toilets. Little shop on the way out. Brilliant walks around here and there is a Gruffalo trail!
Stopped here for lunch on the way to Wales. Good cafe with gluten free options overlooking the mill pond. Lots of wildlife. Parking was ok for us on a weekend in the school holidays but it wasn't that big. Went into the museum with informative displays and wandered around outside, did the Griffalo trail all wheelchair friendly. It was good.
The Gruffalo trail is lovely especially with beautiful surroundings. There's a cafe on site too and the museum. You can also but souvenirs and there's a little kids outdoor play area too. You can also have a barbecue there it seems (arranged only). Free parking on site, toilets at the cafe. Wheelchair/pushchair accessible.
Well worth a visit, the centre is in a beautiful spot right next a large pool. There is a gift shop of course, but more importantly there is a museum showing the history of coal mining in the area. The cafe is not bad either. The centre is near the start of the scenic drive route around the Forest of Dean which is also an excellent way to see the best sights in the area.
A visit to the Forest of Dean and we decided to visit the heritage centre, firstly for some food, then for a wonder round the museum and trail. Parking is free, although they are more than happy for donations! The cafe has a good selection, and is very child friendly - and most importantly they sell ice creams! The museum and trail is based on donations, lots of reading and some bits more interesting than others...! Outside you can wonder round some of the old equipment like the cider press and then follow the trail for a small walk. For the kids you can follow a trail with pixie/ fairy doors, and there is also a play area. A nice place to visit but could have been a few more hands on things for the kids to keep them entertained, and bits of the trail was starting to look a little 'tired'.
