Fantastic place where a great amount of restoration is taking place. We attended when a historic locomotive was dedicated to a York Normandy Veteran. Very moving experience

Such an incredible railway. We went to Murton Park mainly to visit this railway and we weren't disappointed! It was lovely. My husband did the Bronze Driver Experience (£10) which was awesome and highly recommended. We also went for a visit to the signal box with Kevin who was really informative and friendly. The volunteers were all so friendly, welcoming and lovely. Ellen went above and beyond to make our morning with getting the driver experience and signal box visit sorted. These railways rely on great volunteers and the Derwent Valley Light railway has a wonderful bunch of them!

I visited the DVLR on Sunday 30th July, this was not the first time I have visited but will surely be the last. We boarded the train but within seconds the female guard on duty literally pounced upon us and said 'Quote' what are you doing on there, get off. This is not what I was expecting from a volunteer at DVLR and something that I've never experienced on any previous visits. They attached the locomotive and passengers were allowed to board the train once more, I completed a round trip and remained seated on the train which I've done many times on previous visits, only to be told I had to get off again as they are not allowed to couple up the loco with passengers on board. On previous visits passengers have remained on the train whilst coupling up the locomotive, also if this is the case then how can they do the run round at the other end ??? Once I was on the platform I spoke to my partner about not being happy and I said I would not be visiting DVLR again which was overheard by one of the volunteers which said to me 'Quote' don't come again, we have plenty of other people that want to visit. I was left totally speechless by this arrogance, from somebody who should know better. Railways such as DVLR do rely on volunteers and things like donations etc but I for one will never give them the time of day which is a real shame as I do like the DVLR but I can't be spoken to like that no matter what the reason or excuse.
