Stunning lake surrounded by majestic mountains, with the popular town of Keswick to the north and the beautiful Borrowdale valley to the south. Derwent Water is a wonderful place to visit, with shoreline walks to idyllic stony beaches, hilly hikes to the Surprise View on the lake's eastern side and Cat Bells on the western side, and boat trips from Keswick. It's possible to walk the 10 mile loop around the lake within a day if you keep to the footpaths, but there's enough surrounding interest to occupy a couple of days. The full loop is mostly quite level and easy to follow, with well surfaced paths, boardwalks crossing wetland areas and some lovely lush woodland. Highlights include exploring Keswick and its beautiful parks, seeking out Lodore Falls, and scaling Cat Bells to enjoy breathtaking views over the lake. Friar's Crag, a picturesque wooded viewpoint at the northern end of the lake, offers unbeatable vistas of the Jaws of Borrowdale and Cat Bells through the trees. The northern and eastern shoreline can be accessed easily from Keswick. Kettlewell parking area at the southern end of the lake is a good place to start a walk around the southern and western shoreline.

A beautiful lake with a carpark somewhat close by and a generous amount of birdlife from what ive seen up here, very worth it to come up here even for 30 minutes and bring some SEEDED bread too and feed some of the birds

The place it self is beautiful and breathtaking but due to cold we couldn't enjoy much as we enjoyed at Windermere. However it's a nice place for hiking.
