Dubwath Silver Meadows is a distinctive wetland nature reserve located at the north end of Bassenthwaite Lake in Cumbria, offering visitors a chance to experience one of the region's finest sites for observing plant and animal wildlife. The reserve features four different habitats in close proximity—traditional hay meadow, snipe bog, willow carr, and wet heath—allowing visitors to observe a large variety of plants and animals within a single visit. The site is designed with families and all abilities in mind, featuring an easy-access boardwalk that is wheelchair and buggy friendly. Strategically placed seats and hides throughout the reserve enable quiet observation of wildlife and peaceful enjoyment of nature. The reserve is open all year round and offers free entry to all visitors, making it an accessible outdoor destination for families of all ages. Assorted walking routes are available, and the site is part of the Miles without Stiles initiative, ensuring accessible paths for those with mobility requirements. Managed by a dedicated group of volunteers and supported by the Friends of Dubwath Silver Meadows, the reserve plays an important ecological role in the local area. The peaty soils act like a sponge to control water flow into Bassenthwaite Lake and help filter water quality by removing silt and harmful nutrients. Visitors are encouraged to become Friends of the reserve and contribute to its conservation efforts while enjoying the natural beauty and educational value this unique wetland habitat provides.

Lovey walk met one of the Volunteers who was cutting all the paths back. Very quiet and peaceful. Nice couple of hides. Not much about when we visited but very relaxing walk.

Lovely well kept nature reserve with ideal pathways suitable for all to use. Give yourself a good 30 mins to walk around and take in all the different bird sounds. We found a nest with newborn chicks inside. But we never touched anything nearby as the parents would reject the chicks if you go near. We used a selfie stick to take the picture.Please DO-NOT-DISBURB.!! Lovely peaceful place enjoy. 🐦❤️🚶😎

this free reserve is beautiful. you can just walk round at your own pace, its very accesible with wooden walkways (there are some gates which require you to open levers at top) and a couple of good bird feeder spots. we saw some pheasants, woodpeckers, different tits and some other birds.

Passed on an hour with lots of birds around. A few feeders dotted about. Very flat with a few benches and a cuppa or meal afterwards in the old stationary steam train. Has toilets through the small shop there. Does afternoon tea! 😋

A perfect place for either a short quick walk or a leisurely stroll watching butterflies, insects and birds. The site has good paths and plenty of interest. It would be good to come again in other seasons and see the changes. It is enjoyed by families and couples.
