Beautiful ornate cathedral. FREE to get in, but nice to leave a donation. Very well organised, with guided walks if you wish, but best to just go it alone. Nice people always on hand.

What's to say? It's magnificent! Taking a tour is highly recommended as you get the detail around the magnificence, which makes your visit that much more interesting. Book in advance as it is a very popular place to visit.

Great time. Very good walk upto the tower. 325 steps. You do not have to be worried as I saw quite a few elderly climbing till the top

Amazing!! The history, the tranquility, the helpful staff. It was a pleasure to wander around untished and enjoy the entire place. The rose window is amazing. I also loved how dogs are welcome inside so people can enjoy the town with them. Definitely one to recommend for anyone heading in this direction. Durnlham is a lovely town to explore too

Wow, wow, wow! Had a one night stay in Durham and decided to visit the Durham Cathedral. Whilst entry is free for a self guided tour, it is recommended to make a small donation which is used towards the upkeep of this magnificent cathedral. There are guided tours available but check your times as they do not run all day. My family and I attended on a weekday, it was very quiet in terms of other visitors - maybe 30 others were in attendance. Having recently visited Notre Dame in Paris, Winchester Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral in England, my expectations were kept in check, how wrong was I! This place is awesome! From the well manicured gardens in the surrounding grounds to the awe inspiring stained glass windows on the inside, and yes, various areas of the cathedral were used to film scenes from the first two Harry Potter movies, this place is exceptional. There are many information boards around the cathedral to help you gain a better understanding on the history of this place. We spent 2-3 hours looking around, absorbing the 900+ years history. There are several very knowledgeable volunteers on hand to provide further insights into the storied history of this place. Absolute must when visiting Durham.
