Visited the railway for the first time on Easter Sunday (5th April 2026). I have visited 2 other heritage railways in Staffordshire fairly often - Churnet Valley and also Foxfield Railway. I also have a youtube channel (@karlsmith25) and have done several videos of my visit. I booked the all day rover ticket, so I was able to go on the 12:45pm and 3:20pm trains. Loved seeing the locomotive and riding the 9 miles to Duffield. Very interesting museum to with lots of books and postcards for rail enthusiasts. I am sure I will visit again soon. Ample parking as well and friendly staff :)

Bit of a shambles really! Saw the "steam plus tea and cake" special day advertised on the website for £20, no need to book. When trying to buy the tickets at the station, they told us it was £23 and had no knowledge of the £20 price until we showed them the website. We were given a voucher for tea and cake to collect from the shop, but when we got there, there was no cake left and this was only the 2nd of 3 departures! Got on the train, only to be told by the manager that the steam engine had broken down the day before so it will be a diesel engine. We aren't interested in 70s diesels so we wouldn't have bothered if we had known that. About 2 minutes after departing the station, the diesel engine broke down and we sat there for nearly an hour while the driver walked back to the station to get another diesel engine to rescue the train, pull it back to the station and switch the locos over. We ended up departing 1h15 late and had to cancel our reservation for Sunday lunch. The whole thing was a farce from start to finish. We had been warned in advance by a Bluebell railway employee friend that EVR was very amateurish and that proved to be the case. Total waste of money.

Have visited the railway several times now. First time doing a "Santa Special". It was a great experience for children and adults alike. Plus it is very dog friendly. The staff and volunteers went that extra mile to ensure everyone had a great time. Would highly recommend the experience from fake snow, warm trains on a rainy day and Mrs Claus who was highly entertaining. Away from the trains, there is a small museum about the railway, an extensive second hand book shop, railway orientated of course and a small café.

My wife booked us onto this excursion complete with fish and chips. It was an amazing experience which lasted about 2 hours. There are plenty of toilets and a buffet carriage serving alcohol and snacks. At the turn around there was lovely fish and chips waiting which we ate as we set off for the journey back The day went smoothly and efficiently. The staff were brilliant and it was well worth the money. At Wirksworth there is a little museum shop, loads of books and photos, not just for the train enthusiast. This is definitely worth a visit, even if you aren't into trains

A truly wonderful day spent on the railway with cream tea too. Just a fantastic experience, very knowledgeable people and dedicated to keeping the steam engines and trains running. Thank you so very much for a wonderful day and thank you to all thr wonderful volunteers who make it all possible.
