Explore nine centuries of monastic heritage within a remarkable historic house and 30 award-winning acres of gardens that transform with every season.

Forde Abbey is a extraordinary blend of history and natural beauty spanning nearly 900 years on the Somerset border. The historic house showcases one of England's finest collections of Mortlake tapestries and magnificent interiors that chronicle centuries of monastic and family heritage. Visitors can step inside this remarkable home and discover the stories embedded within its walls, with house tours available April through October. The estate's showpiece is its 30 acres of award-winning gardens, featuring the iconic Centenary Fountain, tranquil lakes, and spectacular seasonal displays ranging from winter snowdrops to autumn's rich colours. The grounds remain accessible throughout much of the year, with different areas opening at different seasons—gardens daily from March to October, and Wednesdays to Sundays during winter months. Great Visit. We did not manage to go around the house as it is only open certain days. The Gardens where outstanding and very well maintained. The best part was the water fountain which is very memorising. The cafe was very nice and great food. All the staff where very friendly. I will visit again soon

Absolutely stunning!! Beautiful grounds and gardens. Very good selection of plants to buy from the nursery, and enjoyed waking around the walled vegetable garden, peeking into what was growing in the glasshouses. Sadly the Abbey was closed on the day we visited, but even just viewing it from the outside was delightful. Don't miss the fountain display, it's worth seeing. If you love history, landscaped grounds and gardens you'll love it here. And there's a lovely cafe too!

Forde Abbey was once a Cistercian monastery and is now a private house open to visitors. The River Axe, flows alongside the estate and is the boundary between Somerset and Dorset, with Forde Abbey situated on the Dorset side. This review focuses on the gardens, although the abbey provides an attractive backdrop for some of the photographs included with this review. The gardens are extensive, covering many acres, they are immaculately maintained. There is a lot of variety, the kitchen garden is full of colour in late summer with a superb displays of dahlias. There are several lakes, one close to the Abbey has a fine fountain. The landscaped gardens include a large bog garden with hostas, irises and ferns; there is parkland, rockeries and an arboretum. Dogs on leads are welcome in the gardens. The abbey and gardens are open in spring, summer and autumn. It is an RHS partner garden and well worth a visit. There is also an excellent café/restaurant, gift shop and plant nursery.

This place is a must see venue. The forth generation still resides at the property. The 30 acre garden is beautiful with lovely autumn colours. The pumpkin rolling idea is great for kids to take part in on the front lawn of the house.

Brilliant few hours at Forde Abbey, walking and enjoying the various gardens and the spectacular fountain twice daily I think. The House and Chapel are definitely recommended, especially the large and colourful tapestries. Definitely recommend the cafe for super staff and service, and very tasty home made sausage rolls and egg sandwiches with fresh bread and good salads.
