Glen Maye Waterfall

Isle of Man, Isle of Man•4.7(153)•Country Park, Nature Reserve

Explore a spectacular coastal glen featuring a magnificent waterfall, ancient woodland, and diverse plant and wildlife on the Isle of Man.

Glen Maye, known as 'The Luxuriant Glen,' is an 11.5-acre natural woodland area situated on the coast road south of Peel. The glen's main feature is a towering waterfall set within a beautiful, sheltered valley on either side of the Rushen River. Visitors can experience the remnants of ancient forests that once covered the Isle of Man, featuring ash, sycamore, elm, and Monterey pines, alongside an abundance of diverse ferns including hart's tongue, soft shield fern, and lady fern. The glen is home to unique plant species found nowhere else on the Island, such as Wood vetch and the distinctive 'Glen Maye bramble.' A walk through the lower paddock reveals the Mona-Erin wheelcase, a historic relic of mining operations that took place between 1740 and 1870. Families can extend their visit with a path leading to a rough pebbled beach, where towering cliffs on the northern side of the river provide nesting grounds for seabirds, fulmars, and hawks. Glen Maye is freely accessible and dog-friendly, making it ideal for families seeking outdoor exploration and natural heritage. The venue can be reached via the coastal footpath Raad ny Foillan from Peel or Port Erin, or by car and bus. The glen has been managed as part of Manx national ownership since 1960 by the Forestry Amenity and Lands Directorate.

Most of It is blocked off at the moment but you can still get down to view the water fall and surrounding greenery, rock faces and pools, which is very beautiful 😊
