I had an amazing time on the Go Below Challenge! A huge thank you to Sarah and Ian for leading our adventure. They were both incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience fun from start to finish. Throughout the tour, they shared fascinating stories about the history of the mine. One moment that really stayed with me was when they explained how miners used to work by candlelight and what they had to do if their candle went out underground. Experiencing complete darkness inside the mine for the first time was truly unforgettable and gave me a whole new appreciation for what the miners went through. I didn’t have a car, so I walked from Betws-y-Coed to the Go Below base. After the activity, Ian kindly explained that there was a safer walking route back instead of following the main road, and he also told me which bus I could take. Both Ian and Sarah even offered to give me a lift back to the village. I was especially grateful to Sarah for driving me back to Betws-y-Coed—it was such a thoughtful gesture and I really appreciated her kindness. The challenge itself was exciting, well organised, and unlike anything I’ve ever done before. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting North Wales!
Absolutely loved my experience!! Luke and Chris were our guides during our underground exploration. They were thorough, knowledgeable, funny and very considerate! They took their time with our group and we explored more than I originally anticipated. There are a few opportunities to zip line through the mine and get the feel of rock climbing. I was very impressed by the tour and amount of activities we did. Definitely would recommend. You will be tired but not disappointed.
What an AMAZING experience. From start to finish the service provided has been first class. We made our booking over the phone and lady was lovely and very informative. On the day itself, my husband's 50th birthday, we had the extremely knowledgeable Steve take us on our Go Below journey into the mine. We went with our three children aged 12, 13 and 15 and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did we. My husband says it is one of his favourite days EVER and such a great experience to enjoy together as a family. Steve was fantastic and we felt completely safe in his care and he knew so much history about the mine and could answer all our questions. We highly recommend going on an experience with Go Below and we'll be back again!
Had a wonderful day out on the ultimate extreme. Really friendly and welcoming guiding from Jonty and Ian, who shared such interesting knowledge on geology, local history and mining. They were super patient and supportive as we navigated zip-lines, abseils, traverses, and some wading through tunnels. It was really fun and exhilarating and challenging at times. I recommend wearing WARM socks, as you must wear wellys as you go through cold puddles. You need gloves as well, but if you forget these I think they can provide them. Tl;dr Great day out. Would recommend Shoutout Ian and Jonty for being the bestest.
If you’re thinking about Go Below… do it. Immediately. But maybe stretch first. We went as a group who were, let’s say, enthusiastic, loud, and extremely committed to taking the mick out of each other at every possible opportunity. Poor Lee and Mark had their work cut out, but they handled us brilliantly. Absolute pros. Friendly, calm, and somehow still informative while supervising a collection of chaos merchants underground. The history side was genuinely fascinating. You don’t just crawl around in a cave, you actually learn about the slate industry, the workings of the mine, and the sheer madness of the people who used to work there. It really adds to the experience and stops it feeling like just another activity centre. Now the activities…This is not a gentle stroll. One minute you’re edging sideways along a giant slippery slate drop questioning your life choices, the next you’re abseiling down what can only be described as a vertical abyss, and shortly afterwards you are quite literally twerking your way along an overhang, clinging to ropes while balancing on poles in cold water trying desperately not to soak your backside. Absolutely unavoidable unless your twerk game is strong. The challenges definitely brought out our competitive streak. Every obstacle somehow became a race, a score to beat, or an opportunity to prove we were braver than the person behind us. There was a lot of encouragement and a lot of celebrating tiny victories like we’d just completed an Olympic final. Personally, I ignored all competitive elements and embarked on a deeply personal journey at my own pace.😂 We have not laughed that much in years. It’s physical, it’s adrenaline fuelled, and you absolutely need a reasonable level of fitness and strength, but that’s what makes it so good. You feel like you’ve actually done something epic by the end. Top tips: Wear layers. Lots of layers.Waterproofs are not optional. Bring decent snacks. Prepare to come out filthy, exhausted and ridiculously happy. Huge thanks to Lee and Mark, who showed exceptional patience, good humour and saint-like composure while supervising a group of oversized children. Genuinely one of the best adventure experiences we’ve ever done. See you soon, Floss and the Underground Menaces.
